? No refunds: former club takes a swipe at €70 million man

Hardly any deal attracted as much attention last summer as the transfer of Viktor Gyökeres. Arsenal put a whopping 65.8 million on the table for the Sporting striker.

And that amount was no coincidence. In 33 league games last season, the Swede was responsible for an incredible 39 goals and eight assists. What numbers!

But even in the summer, there were doubters. Some Arsenal fans wondered at the time whether almost 70 million euros for a player who had never performed outside of Portugal might be a bit too much.

So far, those doubters haven’t been wrong. In 14 Premier League matches, Gyökeres has scored only four goals, and he has been waiting for a success since November 1. It was only this past Saturday that the 27-year-old was back in the starting lineup, delivering yet another unfortunate performance.

Sporting certainly didn’t want to miss out on this opportunity. Under an Instagram post from Arsenal showing a photo of Gyökeres, the Portuguese shamelessly commented after the match: “Ne refunds,” meaning “no refunds.”
