Barcelona playmaker likely to miss Girona encounter after training injury with national team

According to a report from SPORT, it has come to light that early indications suggest Dani Olmo will miss Barcelona’s upcoming clash against Girona after the international break. 

The Spanish midfielder has suffered a calf puncture, which forced him to withdraw from Luis de la Fuente’s national team camp. 

This comes as a major blow for Hansi Flick, who is already dealing with a growing injury list that includes Gavi, while Fermin Lopez remains a doubt for the same fixture.

Olmo had been expected to play a key role for Spain during this international window, but his physical condition raised concerns shortly after joining the camp. 

De la Fuente confirmed the situation in a recent press conference, explaining, “Dani trained all week, but he came feeling a bit fatigued and some discomfort. 

“Today in training, he participated for only 15 minutes and wasn’t comfortable, so we told him to stop training.”

Following his release, the Barcelona midfielder will now return to the club for further medical evaluation. 

While an official recovery timeline has yet to be provided, initial signs indicate that Olmo’s participation against Girona is highly unlikely. 

His potential absence comes at a particularly delicate moment for Barcelona, who have struggled to maintain consistency in recent matches and continue to face multiple injury setbacks.

However, there are a few positives for Flick to take into account. Reports suggest that Raphinha, Fermin, and Lamine Yamal could all make their returns for the Girona game. 

Their involvement, however, will depend on fitness assessments closer to matchday, as the manager will not want to risk aggravating any lingering issues.

In light of Olmo’s injury, Flick may be forced to adjust his tactical setup. The German coach could rely on someone like Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez to fill the creative void, or possibly introduce Raphinha in a more central attacking role.
