Yuri Alberto shines, Depay scores a screamer, Corinthians beat São Paulo

In the 34th round of the Brasileirão, Corinthians defeated São Paulo 3-1 this Thursday (20th) at the Neo Química Arena.

The result in Itaquera mathematically secured Mirassol a spot in the 2026 Conmebol Libertadores (see below).

Before kickoff, the Timão fans taunted Tricolor with a 3D mosaic celebrating their great achievements in the derby.

In the first half, even if Corinthians did not show great technical or tactical improvement, at the very least, they displayed the fighting spirit demanded by the Fiel Torcida and that a derby requires.

The advantage came through a penalty converted by Yuri Alberto, after Ferreirinha fouled Breno Bidon.

The decision by referee Anderson Daronco, after VAR review, even stirred up social media.

After the break, however, São Paulo "arrived" in the Majestoso.

So much so that, before the 10-minute mark, Gonzalo Tapia, who came on in the second half, headed in a corner taken by Cédric Soares to level the score.

However, in the final minutes, Memphis Depay, who had just come onto the pitch, received the ball in the box, nutmegged Sabino brilliantly, and secured Corinthians' victory in the Majestoso.

But there was still room for more goals at the Neo Química Arena.

Yuri Alberto picked up the rebound off the post from Vitinho's powerful shot and scored the third.

? What now

After finding their way back to victory following two rounds, Corinthians reached 45 points and climbed to tenth place.

São Paulo, meanwhile, after a third straight round without a win (one draw and two losses), remained stuck on 45 points, but sits in ninth place due to having fewer red cards than their rival (2 x 4).

The team happiest with the result in the Majestoso was Mirassol, who, in fourth place with 60 points, can no longer be caught by RB Bragantino, São Paulo, or Corinthians and thus has mathematically secured a spot in the 2026 Libertadores.

Tricolor Paulista returns to the field next Sunday (23rd), when they face Juventude at Vila Belmiro for the 35th round of the Brasileirão. Timão, meanwhile, visit Cruzeiro at Mineirão on the same day.
