? Team back in top flight after 3️⃣ decades, see Série B's outcome
It was a Sunday (23rd) FILLED with emotion in the Série B of the Brazilian Championship.
Two teams were fighting for the title. One of them was in the group of five battling for the remaining three spots in the top division.
And three teams were trying to avoid being the fourth relegated to Série C.
The day that closed out the 2025 Second Division ended with Coritiba, Athletico, Remo, and Chapecoense celebrating.
Criciúma and Goiás, the duo that started the round in the G-4, did not get promoted.
And the champion was.... ?
Already guaranteed in the top flight, Coritiba came into the final round needing just one point to secure the trophy. They had a three-point advantage (65 to 62) over their rival Athletico.
CAP, on the other hand, needed to win and hope their biggest rival would lose to already-relegated Amazonas.
Coxa made sure to eliminate any chance of not taking the trophy already in the first half.
Sebas Gómez struck first after a cross from Ronier to celebrate (39').
And Iury Castilho only reinforced that the trophy would go to Coxa at 44'.
Onça even pulled one back with Luan Silva (50'), but without threatening their rival’s title.
It’s Coritiba’s third title after their wins in 2007 and 2010.
The fight for promotion was HOT ?
There were three spots left for five contenders. The situation before kickoff was:
Athletico (62 points), Criciúma (61 and goal difference 15), Goiás (61 and goal difference 7), Chapecoense (59 and 17 wins), and Remo (59 and 15 wins).
Remo had the most dramatic match, but with a happy ending.
Without playing in Série A since 1994, the team from Pará had been on a great run under coach Guto Ferreira.
But they left their fans in doubt after three games without a win at “crunch time.”
Fans who suffered before celebrating on this historic Sunday. Lepu (7') put Carille’s Goiás ahead.
The rain was relentless in Belém. So was Remo, who went into halftime with a goal from top scorer Pedro Rocha (49').

The comeback came at 63', with João Pedro finishing off Pedro Rocha’s move.
It was up to the Portuguese João Pedro to confirm promotion at 85' with a header.
Promotion in a completely packed Mangueirão that was stormed by the fans.
Another achievement for “Gordiola,” a new “King of Promotion.”
Playing in a packed and pulsating Ligga Arena, the Furacão did what was needed to avoid any risk.
It was João Cruz, a product of CT do Caju, who secured the 1-0 win over América Mineiro.
The return came without the “ease” expected. But right after the surprising relegation in 2024.
Highlight for Leozinho’s presence among the fans, as he was serving a suspension.

Criciúma got into trouble at 24' of the first half, when Filipinho was sent off. He had lost his brother and was playing with his brother’s name on his shirt. He went to the locker room in tears.
With nothing to play for, Cuiabá scored a beautiful goal with young David Miguel, 18 years old. The goal confirmed the 1-0 win and ended Tigre’s dream.
Gilmar dal Pozzo’s Chape didn’t depend only on themselves.
But the other results helped.
And Walter Clar, from the penalty spot, scored the winning goal for 1-0. And the promotion for Verdão do Oeste after three years in Série B fighting against relegation.
Which led to fans invading the pitch at Arena Condá.
The last relegated ?
Three teams took the field trying not to join Paysandu, Volta Redonda, and Amazonas in Série C in 2026.
These were Athletic (41 points and 11 wins), Botafogo de Ribeirão Preto (41 points and 10 wins), and Ferroviária (40 points).
And it was precisely the team that didn’t depend on themselves that calmed down first.
Netinho (8') put Ferroviária ahead of Operário at Germano Krüger. The Fantasma started off playing very poorly and he struck beautifully from outside the box.
But Operário found the equalizer with Dudu Mosconi (33'). And even made it 3-1 with Léo Gaúcho (96').
A result much celebrated by Athletic, who fell behind to Paysandu (Petterson, at 8').
But they fought back for a 1-1 draw with a goal from Alessio Da Cruz (77'), who is expected to be called up to play in the 2026 World Cup with Cape Verde. Alessio also scored the third (87').
Botafogo de Ribeirão Preto only depended on themselves, drew 0-0 with Avaí, and stayed in the Second Division thanks to Ferroviária’s draw.
