Spanish journalist squashes rumours about Barcelona receiving an offer for club captain

It was reported yesterday that Barcelona have received their first offer for the services of Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

It was Besiktas, who had reportedly tabled a loan deal with an €8 million buy option, thus giving Ter Stegen the opportunity to move out of Catalonia amid fears that Oliver Baumann may take his role in the German national team.

However, those rumours have been squashed by Mundo Deportivo journalist Roger Torello, who maintains that Barcelona have not received any offer for Ter Stegen.

What’s next for Ter Stegen?

The report points out that Barcelona are still waiting for Ter Stegen to get back to full fitness.

Once he is fit and able to start matches, Barça expect clubs to approach him over a potential move in the upcoming January transfer window.

Until then, Joan Garcia remains Barcelona’s first-choice ‘keeper, with Wojciech Szczesny serving as the alternative.

Many expected Garcia to return to the starting eleven this weekend, having recovered from an early-season injury.

Ter Stegen, meanwhile, faces a daunting challenge of finding a new club sooner rather than later, as he looks to secure his role as the Germany’s number one, ahead of Baumann.

Baumann has been impressing lately with his performances for the national team, notably keeping clean sheets in all of his last four matches. His performances have helped Germany seal a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Therefore, if Ter Stegen fails to play regularly during the second half of the campaign, it won’t be surprising to see coach Julian Nagelsmann opting for Baumann in between the sticks in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
