Modric: Milan’s ‘reputation and history’ close to Real Madrid’s

Luka Modric is delighted to have joined Milan, a club close to Real Madrid in terms of ‘reputation and history.’

Milan star Modric released an interview with Arena Sport in Croatia, talking about his first few months at San Siro.

The former Real Madrid star has started all 12 Serie A games with the Rossoneri this term, contributing to victories against Inter, Napoli and Roma.

Milan sit second in the Serie A table, level on 25 points with Napoli and just two below table leaders Roma.

Modric on ‘great’ welcome at Milan

“The city is wonderful, and people greatly welcomed me. Both inside the club and outside,” Modric said (via Milan News).

“My teammates, the coach, the fans, everything is truly top-level. You clearly see that Milan is a great historic club, one of the biggest in the world. You feel it at every step, so I’m really happy and enjoying all this.”

To say that Modric’s Real Madrid spell was successful is an understatement as the Croatian star won, among other things, four La Liga titles, six Champions League and the 2018 Ballon d’Or.

The 40-year-old left the Merengues at the end of his contract last summer.

“Honestly, it wasn’t easy because I spent 13 years, almost half of my life, in one club and one city,” he admitted.

“It was one of the most beautiful periods of my life. I arrived in Madrid relatively late, at 27, but at the right moment. I was ready for that step. My four years in England helped me a lot. Everything I lived and achieved in Madrid still feels unreal.

“I think I’ve arrived at a club that, in terms of reputation and history, is very close to Real Madrid,” Modric continued.

“For me, it’s the ideal situation I could have hoped for. Especially because I love Milan, and as a kid, I grew up with Italian football. Milan was the club I adored the most. When the Milan option appeared, for me it was the right one.

Modric’s contract at San Siro expires at the end of the season, but the Rossoneri have an option to extend his stay until 2027.
