Former Barcelona forward taking up a more prominent role in club’s sporting structure – report

Joan Laporta and Deco, at this point, are perhaps Barcelona’s two most important figures in terms of the club’s football project.

The club president, after all, has been working to no end to ensure the Catalans can recover from the financial muddle they were in, while the sporting director has done a decent job in recent transfer windows to work with the limited finances.

A third figure who is quickly gaining prominence within the club administration is Bojan Krkic. The former player is the football coordinator in La Masia, monitoring academy players for their progress and promise, but is quickly outgrowing that role.

Set for a bigger role?

As relayed in a recent report by Catalunya Radio (h/t FCB World), Bojan is now far more than a close aide of Deco who only acts in a complementary capacity to the sporting director. He has now become a key figure in the club’s sporting structure.

The former forward is now an active member of the sporting committee and is regularly present at the first-team games in addition to the Barça Atletic and youth team matches.

He continues to perform the role he was initially hired for, which is to monitor young talents and act as a bridge to bring them to the notice of the hierarchy and suggest promotions.

However, he also has direct access to the club president now and even keeps a direct-line contact with Hansi Flick to suggest talents who should train with the first team and even get added to squad lists.

The likes of Dro, who has seen good prominence and first-team call-ups this season, and Xavi Espart are both his suggestions that have turned out well for Flick.

It remains to be seen if Bojan is given a bigger role in the coming months, or possibly in Laporta’s next project should he win the next presidential election.

What is clear, however, is that the former La Masia graduate is gaining prominence within the club’s sporting structure.
