Chelsea tormentor Robinson hopes for Cardiff upset
Callum Robinson has spent most of this season on the bench for Cardiff City. On Tuesday, Chelsea will hope he stays there.
The League One leaders will host the Club World Cup champions in an EFL Cup quarter-final at Cardiff City Stadium and, in Robinson, the home side might have an ace up their sleeve.
The Republic of Ireland forward has a remarkable record against Chelsea, scoring five goals in three Premier League games against the former Champions League winners.
In fact, Robinson scored two of those goals in one substitute appearance for West Bromwich Albion in a 5-2 victory at Stamford Bridge in 2021, just a month before Chelsea were crowned champions of Europe for a second time.
His current club might be two divisions lower than the Londoners, but Robinson could not help gently reminding Chelsea fans of his record against their team when the draw was made.
"Not many players score that many goals against a team like Chelsea over the years so it's stuck with me quite a bit throughout my career," he said.
"When we got them in the quarters, I was obviously going to put a little bit out there [on social media] for a bit of banter, but I didn't know I was in people's heads that much, to be fair.
"I thought they [Chelsea fans] would have forgotten about me a long time ago but, yeah, it's a good part of football."

Despite his Premier League and international pedigree, Robinson has had to bide his time for Cardiff in League One this season.
Only four of his 18 league appearances have been starts but he has still been able to contribute four league goals and six in all competitions.
"At the moment, every minute I get, I'm trying to push to play, to start and to play more and more games like any professional would," said Robinson.
"I've just got to keep my head down and train how I've been training all season and try to help and affect games, and hopefully Brian [Barry-Murphy, Cardiff head coach] will give me more minutes and more chances."
If Robinson starts against Chelsea, there will be no better time to further his case for more regular Cardiff starts – and to burnish his already enviable record against Chelsea.
"Hopefully it will be the same tomorrow," he added. "They're different circumstances, obviously, we're in League One, but we're doing really well as a group.
"It's a big test to see what we can do tomorrow night against a team where we all would want to be.
"Magic stuff can happen in the cup and we're going into it with great form. We've got nothing to lose. We'll give it a go in our own way."
